A commitment to better waste management in France

Viewed 101 times

Bertrand SWIDERSKI (Environment, 1997, Rennes), chief sustainability officer at Carrefour, was recently in Athis-Mons (91) to present Carrefour's new recycling kiosks.
Indeed, despite the presence of sophisticated sorting centers, sorting errors remain all too frequent, hampering effective recycling efforts.

Some waste, dubbed "forgotten", even escapes traditional sorting centers. To give them a second life, Carrefour has set up recycling kiosks in its store parking lots, reserving a place for items such as razors, frayed tights, empty toothpaste tubes, used make-up and dented frying pans. By passing through these kiosks, consumers can avoid the incineration or landfill of these objects, which will be transformed into new raw materials and receive a voucher in exchange.

As part of Carrefour's food transition pact packaging coalition, ten major brands are collaborating on collective projects, including the recycling kiosks supported by five of them (L'Oréal, Philips, BIC, DIM and Tefal). The initiative also aims to raise customer awareness of good sorting practices and the use of kiosks.
